Teeth In A Day
At the Norway Dental Dr. Ted Fornetti, is able to offer our patients Teeth in a Day! We make this available through advancements in technology, and new protocols of placement of dental implants. Dr. Ted examines each case and patient on an individual basis, to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure. With the help of VIP scans and 3D cat scans, we have the ability to extract a tooth, place a dental implant in the area of the missing tooth, and load the implant with a restoration so you never have to be without teeth.

Conventional implant treatment involves considerable expense and time for healing, usually in the range of four to six months. This new approach addresses these most significant hurdles to providing implant treatment. While implant treatment can be used in any situation involving tooth loss, the most dramatic benefit is for the patient with a lower denture. While upper dentures are usually not a problem for patients; the lower denture presents major problems of instability. Conventional implant treatment involves a surgical procedure to uncover the bone and place five screw-like anchors in the bone. This is followed by a four to six-month wait for these anchors to heal or “integrate”. A gold bar is then attached to these anchors, and the teeth are supported by this bar. The implants not only hold the teeth in place and keep them from moving; they also support the teeth so that when biting force is applied to them, the teeth are completely supported by the implants. The new system keeps the lower teeth from moving just like the conventional treatment but does not support the chewing force. The teeth rest on the gums directly and are held in place by the implants.
The good news is: The new system requires no surgery, no wait for healing, and about one third the cost for a conventional lower denture implant system.
Each implant has a rubber ring embedded in the denture that engages the implant when the denture is seated.
How does it work? A free exam with an X-ray is required to determine if your lower jaw is suitable for the system. Since this system relies on the gum tissues for support, it is important that there be no sharp bone under the gum to injure the gum when chewing. The other consideration is the condition of the existing lower denture, and whether it can be used, or if it will need to be replaced or relined. Assuming the lower jaw ridge looks good, and the denture is usable without relining, the procedure is simple: The lower jaw is numbed as it would be for extraction or filling, and four small pins are placed in the jaw. These pins have a small round ball on the top of them. The lower denture is hollowed out in the area of the four pins, and a small rubber o-ring or gasket is placed in the recess in the denture. That is it!! You walk out of the office with a denture that is immediately stable and secure. As far as maintenance, the implants need to be brushed daily with a special cleaning agent. Dentures need to be periodically relined or replaced to accommodate changes in the jaw ridge, but less frequently with the implant system because of better stability.
